Chisel Mill Homes was founded in 2012 by my parents, Jay and Michelle Knight. They began Chisel Mill Design & Build, LLC to help counteract the fallout from 2008’s housing collapse. Chisel Mill was started as a full scale general contractor but soon found it’s niche; building new homes in rural communities.

My father, Jay, was one of four owners of Knight Homes, south metro Atlanta's largest private homebuilder.  In 2020, after 42 years in business, Knight Homes sold to a nationwide builder. I have had the unique opportunity of being immersed in the industry since an early age. My coming of age included  working summer jobs and flying to zoning meetings to watch my dad.

After graduating from Georgia State University in 2016, I was not passionate about the Actuary Science path I had chosen. Business had picked up at Knight Homes, and my parents were considering the idea of closing Chisel Mill. After several conversations, my dad and I decided we would like to grow Chisel Mill's business model of building homes on scattered lots. Knight Homes was historically focused on large neighborhood developments and could never pursue the unique opportunities scattered lots offered homebuyers. We built and sold three houses in 2017 and have not looked back since. Through 2023, Chisel Mill has sold 120 houses. I now work alongside my three siblings and my wife, who are all committed to growing Chisel Mill while ensuring a high level of satisfaction amongst our customers. As a family business, we know we embrace the same values. We aim to exemplify integrity through our long-term vision, respect for employees, and customer-centricity. Through these shared ideals, we are confident in our mission to leave our customers proud of their Chisel Mill Homes.
